About vineyard jobs

Vineyard jobs across Australia go well beyond harvest. Winter pruning, trellising and picking mean there is often work in the wine regions, from the Barossa to Sunraysia and Margaret River.

Year-round work

Winter pruning runs June to August and is some of the most reliable cool-season farm work in the country. Spring brings trellising, training and shoot thinning. Then harvest picking lands February to April. String a few of these together and you can work most of the year in one region.

Where the work is

The Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale in South Australia, Sunraysia and the Yarra Valley in Victoria, the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, and Margaret River in WA all run vineyard work across the seasons.

Pay and visa

Pruning is usually paid hourly at $30.91 per hour or more, sometimes per vine for experienced hands. Most vineyard work in regional areas counts toward your 88 days. For harvest specifically, see grape picking jobs.
