The cooler apple regions are the Huon Valley in Tasmania, Batlow and Orange in New South Wales, Stanthorpe in Queensland, the Goulburn Valley in Victoria, and Donnybrook and Manjimup in the WA southwest. Most pick from March to May.
The work
You pick into a bag worn on your chest and empty it into bins. It means ladders, full bags and a lot of climbing, so it is physical. Most farms pay by the bin, so your speed sets your pay.
