Dairy cattle farm operator, Maffra VIC

BNS Ag Pty Ltd operates The Berry Dairy, a 450-acre farm in Maffra. They are looking for an experienced Dairy Cattle Farm Operator to join their team on a permanent basis.

What you will do

• Assist with twice-daily milking (morning and afternoon shifts)
• Prepare the dairy shed and equipment for milking
• Bring cows in from paddocks and return them after milking
• Monitor cow behaviour and report any health issues such as lameness or mastitis
• Assist with feeding calves milk, pellets and hay
• Clean and bed calf pens regularly
• Observe calf health and report concerns
• Wash down the milking area, yards and equipment after each milking
• Help maintain water troughs, feeders and machinery
• Assist with feeding out hay and silage
• Operate computerised systems and manage records
• Help with basic fencing, maintenance and seasonal jobs
• Assist with livestock handling during herd moves or vet visits

What we are looking for

• AQF Certificate II or III (or equivalent) or at least 1 year of recent relevant work experience
• Experience with the duties listed above
• Strong work ethic and ability to problem solve
• Focus on safety and compliance
• Physically fit for the role
• Current driver’s licence
• Mobile plant operation tickets preferred
• Passion for working with animals

Cows are milked twice daily, 10 months a year. The farm uses a rotary dairy system and prioritises animal welfare. All calves are reared on site.
