About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Assistant Farm Manager to support the management of large-scale broadacre cropping operations (wheat, canola, barley and oats) for a leading corporate farming group near Young.
This is a key leadership position that combines hands-on operational expertise with people management and strategic input. You will work closely with the Farm Manager to deliver efficient, high-yielding cropping programs across thousands of hectares while upholding the highest standards of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Farm Manager in planning and executing all aspects of the broadacre cropping program, including paddock selection, crop rotations, sowing, nutrient management, pest/weed/disease control, and harvest operations
Provide day-to-day leadership and supervision to the farm team, including senior farm workers and casual staff during peak periods
Operate, maintain, and oversee the use of modern broadacre machinery and precision agriculture technology to optimise efficiency and minimise downtime
Monitor crop performance throughout the season and implement timely management decisions in consultation with the Farm Manager
Assist with input procurement, budget monitoring, and cost control to ensure operations remain efficient and profitable
Maintain detailed records of all farming activities, machinery usage, chemical applications, and yield data
Champion workplace health and safety, ensuring all team members adhere to safe work practices and company policies
Support the implementation of sustainable farming practices, including soil health improvement, environmental compliance, and resource efficiency
Conduct regular team meetings, performance feedback, and training for farm staff
Represent the farm professionally when dealing with agronomists, contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders
Assist with general farm infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects as required
About You – the ideal candidate will bring:
Minimum 5–7 years’ progressive experience in broadacre cropping, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or assistant manager role
Strong technical knowledge of modern cropping systems, precision agriculture tools, and large-scale machinery operation
Proven ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced, seasonal environment
Sound understanding of farm business principles, including budgeting, cost management, and basic agronomic decision-making
Current Australian driver’s licence (HR or HC licence highly regarded)
Chemical accreditation (ChemCert/Agrichem) and relevant machinery operation tickets
Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills
A proactive, safety-focused mindset with strong attention to detail
Willingness to live and work in a regional/rural location, including availability for long hours during seeding and harvest periods
